The Leeson family moved to Ballynafagh in 1995 buying land on both sides of Ballynafagh Lake. The Woodland was planted by the family in 1998. In 2020 the first paths were created through the trees. During 2021 and 2022 the family worked to create spaces around the Woodland for workshops and walking trails.
Ballynafagh Lake is a European Special Area of Conservation and is an area of natural beauty providing a luscious home for wildlife and a peaceful haven for humans. It also provides one of most stunning sunsets in Ireland.
Here at the Woodland Retreat, we know that humans feel better when immersed in nature. Our workshops are facilitated in ways to help you relax and grow as nature intended.
Coming Summer 2024.Sleeping under the trees and stars is an experience like no other. Listening to nothing other than the sounds of the resident birds and woodland creatures.
The Woodland is perfect for hosting various workshops and we are actively looking for ideas and facilitators to use the space.
Emma-Jane Leeson, one of Ireland's leading children's book authors, yoga teacher and manager of the Woodland, hosts immersive Writing, Yoga & Rewilding Workshops for both adults and children encouraging participants to let nature inspire their imaginations.
The wooden platforms throughout the forest are perfect for Yoga and Meditation retreats. Foraging workshops are offered utilising the bountiful array of wild food that naturally grows throughout the Woodland.
